â€Å"If you work hard and play by the rules you should be given a chance to go as far as your God-given ability will take you.† President Bill Clinton coined this phrase as he declared the role of the American dream is purposed for all and can be obtain by someones own efforts (Schudson 566). This is easier said then done. The American dream has long been prescribed into the heart and defines what it means to be an American. Almost like an addictive drug, the pursuit of the dream fuels the desires of natives and foreigners alike to go after a life styles that is just out of their reach. The challenge to obtain the American dream is faced by all walks of life, but such a dream seems more daunting for refugees seeking their new beginnings†¦show more content†¦Their desire usually encompasses a desire for refuge from terrors in their homeland. For a refugee the dream is to be in a place where their children can have a better and safer future. However, when coming in to the united states most refugees have varying degrees of challenges they face on top of settling into a new country and needing to find a good job. They are still badly traumatize by their experience from their home country, yet need to understand basic systems in order to settle in in their new home. Faeza escaped Iraq after her husband was murdered and came to Phoenix with her young son. She was a new widow, only knows basic English and had little experience in order to keep a job. For her settling was overwhelming without the a community support. More over, understanding how to get around like renting a good apartment is filled with obstacles. She needs to understand the purpose and systems in paying for bills, and finding a safe and affordable apartment. Faeza was not able to find solace until there were guides that helped her into choosing a safe neighborhood to rent a home and supplied her with basic necessities(Benntt 40). Jean Claude Van Damme in Double Impact Jean-Claude Van Damme - DOUBLE IMPACT The movie opens twenty-five years ago in Hong Kong. The parents of two twin babies, Alex and Chad, had borrowed money from Raymond Zhang and Nigel Griffith, two lead smugglers. They needed the money in order to build a tunnel between Hong Kong and the mainland. After the tunnel was built and the money collected, Nigel Griffith and Raymond Zhang had a gang of hit men massacre Alex and Chad's family. Frank Avery, a friend of the family, races into the scene and finds the parents already dead. The two babies are in the back seat with a maid. She takes Alex and flees the scene. Frank sees Chad left behind and takes him and runs. Twenty-five years after these events we find Frank Avery, who is played by Geoffrey Lewis, has raised Chad as his own kid. They own a gym in Los Angelos. Frank has been trying to locate the other brother for the past twenty-five years and has finally found his whereabouts in Hong Kong, working for Raymond Zhang, played by Philip Chan Yan Kin, and Nigel Griffith, played by Alan Scarfe. Frank and Chad go to Hong Kong and meet his brother. Interesting events take place when they arrive since Alex's girlfriend Danielle Wilde, played by Alonna Shaw, thinks that Chad is Alex. Alex arrives and head butts Chad. When Chad revives from being knock unconscious, Frank convinces the two brothers to help avenge the deaths of their parents. The setting for this movie is very appropriate. They are in Hong Kong where the laws are not up to par with the American Style. This allows the corrupt trades of Zhang, Griffith, and Alex to go on hardly disturbed by the Hong Kong police. The dominant theme in Double Impact is vengeance and it is seen quite readily once the action gets rolling. Alex and Chad are out to kill Zhang and Griffith for the massacre of their parents. As the movie rolls on, Alex becomes suspicious of Chad because he thinks that he is playing around with his girlfriend Danielle. We see Alex's thoughts of Chad with Danielle as he becomes drunker and his mind imagines that they are having sex together. These thoughts enrage Alex and he fights his own brother. The whole movie was directed and acted very well considering Chad and Alex are both played by the same person, Jean-Claude Van Damme, which justifies the movie's name, Double Impact. The main character Jean-Claude Van Damme plays more roles than just casting. He is also the fight choreographer and one of the producers. His talent of kickboxing has come through in his first great achievement where he played as Frank Dux in Bloodsport. Another great kickboxer in Double Impact is Bolo Yeung, who also played in Bloodsport, both times as the villain against Jean-Claude Van Damme. Although Jean-Claude Van Damme is mainly known for his kickboxing, Double Impact is a different story. The kickboxing and fighting has been toned down somewhat in this movie. Most of the fights are with high powered guns as they, Chad and Alex, seek to find Zhang and Griffith and kill them. The special effects in this movie are amazing. Not one place in the movie is it slightly obvious that Chad and Alex are both the same guy, except that you know they are in reality. To top off the amazement on the viewers part, the movie producers include a fight with Jean-Claude Van Damme against himself! How they pieced the fighting scenes like this one and the special effects of the two brothers working together is a great achievement. There has been so much time and precision taken into account when the movie was produced and it shows through its many scenes of action with the two brothers fighting. In previous movies with Jean-Claude Van Damme, the dialogue has been quite limited, but in this movie it is incredible. Jean- Claude Van Damme plays two roles, each with a completely opposite character. Alex is a tough guy in the smuggling business in Hong Kong and Chad is a California dude as an aerobic instructor in the gym Frank and himself own. Overall, the movie is written, produced, acted, and directed very well. It deserves high accolades and should be seen by any action movie enthusiast. Watch it for yourself and you decide.

The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) main aim is to reduce discrimination against those with disabilities; in particular those individuals who are in employment, in access to facilities, goods and services. The DDA covers a range of people who have sensory, mental or physical disabilities. The act also covers people with severe disfigurements. The act is there that everyone who has a disability should have the same rights as people who are well bodied. By introducing the DDA, it made people who have disabilities more confident. It made them somewhat equals everyone else. It gave them the opportunity to get a job and study. The DDA helped people with disabilities to try and live a normal life. The Disability Discrimination Act aim is to value and protect service users by not allowing them to be discriminated by their disability. It is very important that people with disabilities are not treated any differently to those who have disabilities. The DDA says that people with disabilities should be treated equally and have the same right as well bodied people and allowed to do the same things as well bodied people. As a result, an employee in an organization becomes both the stakeholder and shareholder (Mayo, 2001). Employees are merely lending their personal human capital to their company and may switch so if they are not being treated right. Meanwhile, other assets of an organization do not have an emotional element attached to them. This refers to state-of-the-art technology that manufactures excellent, ‘clean’ products for mass selling. Companies such as Apple, Sony and Philips are all well renowned for their IT products. Big touch screen tablet computers. Bigger ‘LED’ Television screen and the list go on. However, it is by the use of the human resource that we are able to come out with such ideas and thinking on how our future daily products are to be like. Machines can never be exact substitutes for humans. It is the action of our own mindless workers in those factories hat we can control the technology to be turned on or off for exact made-to-order production figures. Those same workers will be the one to diagnose and repair the machines once they break down. The same applies to the rest of the assets. The organization’s financials, materials, and methodology couldn’t be derived without the help of the human resource. It is only through people that these factors could be idealised and generated. Stewart (2005: 3) defined intellectual capital as: ‘Intellectual material –knowledge, information, intellectual property, experience – that can be put to use to create wealth. An organization may start with zero capital but with honest, experienced and resourceful employees, their company might still be successful in the end. As highlighted, no other asset is as important as human resource in any organization. An organization needs the directives of its own staff as nothing else will drive the company forward. Employee actions are the mirror image of their organization. A good responsible, reputable and polite bike technician will give customer the same impression of the company. Good impressions will drive up the company’s monthly sales target. A bad reputation will lowly dwindle down sales targets and force customer to look for other better workshops. However, most companies think of fast super fast and easy methods of cutting down costs in times of crisis by letting go of their employees. It would only be common sense to cut down on your own staff as you’re now dealing with technologies and machines for your business but we are wrong. This perspective is also being supported by various accounting principles. Mayo (2001: 4) states that ‘They are much more likely to see the company being driven by efficiency and by minimizing costs. ’ This is largely due to the fact that human resource costs re easier to monitor, while the intangible values that they generate is not. So, human resources alone will not entail in good endings. It has to be nurtured properly from the start by a good human resource management (HRM). Only with good HRM will the company be recruiting the best talent for the job. With the proper strategy and fit in line, these ‘people’s managers’ will be the change agents for their employees and only then will their approach be fruitful. As stated by Armstrong (2009: 15), ‘the overall purpose of human resource management is to ensure the organization is able to achieve success through people’. As you can see, human resources are the most important asset in the organization. They are the one that drive the organization forward in making a significant contribution to their company’s success. The rest of the assets stated above are in pale comparison to human resource. However, only with a good HRM will the organization prosper. Given the proper infrastructure, high investment and even huge manpower but without a proper HRM, there is no way that organization could run successfully. Thus, human resource is the most important factor in determining the success and failure of any organization.

Different Tongues

If I ruled the world; which is highly unlikely of course, I would ban all languages except one – Arabic. The majority of you probably disagree but tell me how many of YOU have found yourself in a class with a teacher speaking some alien language to you? Many times, I assume just like me none of you probably enjoyed it, but hated it to bits and thought of the reason as to how and why you ended up in that state. The reason as to why I chose Arabic is that it is an example of different cultures living in one language; how many Arabic countries do you know of? Syria, Saudi Arabia, Libya and the list goes on, well each one of the countries are their own, they have their own culture, own tradition but the same language, so why can't the whole world be like this? How easy would life be? Those of you who think that without different languages you can't have different culture, you can't be unique, well your wrong as trust me people from Iraq are as different to people from Syria as people from America and Africa are, and they don't have different languages, they have one – Arabic, true they may have changed words here and there but it is still the same language – they can understand each other. So now as you were just informed that it is possible to have the same language and a different culture don't you agree with me about having only one tongue, one language, one way of verbal communication the same as everyone else? It was said that there is 6,809 languages in the world – it might be possible. But that is a significant number of languages. Like for example in Afghanistan, where I come from there are two main languages – Pashto and Farsi. But as I discovered a while ago, there are many more languages in Afghanistan only the main is Farsi and Pashto and Afghanistan isn't even a big country. I am sure many of you didn't know that, I being an Afghan didn't even know until my dad informed me. So imagine if one country had many languages than how many are there in the world? IF mankind was united there would only be one and only one language! Now that exam period is here, what are you more focused on? I think the majority of you are focusing on French, Spanish or German; if not then when GCSEs come I am almost certain you will – unless you haven't taken a language or you already know that language as it is your mother tongue. Without this extra weight on our shoulders we could all become top fliers in other more important subjects such as maths and science. As the fact that learning language becomes harder to learn as we grow older is true, and if it weren't true I wouldn't mind languages but as it is true ( and we weren't taught different languages at the age which was easy for us to learn languages) and all the endless lists of vocabulary is near to impossible to learn, I would rather banish all languages off the face of this planet except one, so that no one has to suffer sitting and learning the vocabulary off by heart – just to get accepted into a good university or to obtain a good job. Aren't there far better things to spend our time on? We all have better time consuming occupations than sitting there, pulling our hair out trying to learn a language made because the human race cannot be united. One language can symbolise unity amongst humans. If animals of the same species can achieve that why can't we? Surely we are supposed to be greater than animals, with larger brains, so why don't we have one language in which everybody would be able to communicate with each other, making everyone's lives easier. Allow me to share an account I underwent a few years back, I went on holiday with my family to France, on holiday, it was great only a major thing restricted me and my family having the utmost maximum fun my achievable – different languages. We went there via ship and car, so basically we had to drive to Paris and as my dad had never been there and didn't know the way, as expected we became lost. We asked a few people but like us they had blank confused looks on their faces, as they couldn't understand us and we couldn't understand them, after a long period of time we reached Paris, but we would have reached our destination quicker if we had one language. That was only one problem, there was problems with the hotel, finding our way around to Eiffel Tower, Disney Land, matters got so bad we ended up giving up not going to Disney Land. That wasn't the only place I had gone for holiday to, that I didn't know the language of and that I had problems in. I'm fairly positive the majority of you, have also had an account like this, would you and I have undergone those problems if we all shared one tongue, one language, one way of verbal communication the same as everyone else? Imagine you were an immigrant from another country, to England, you don't know English, your parents don't know English, you moved here because of war, your father is desperately trying to make money for the family, but he is having difficulty as he doesn't know English even though he is educated. Wouldn't there be less racism if there was one tongue, one language, one way of verbal communication the same as everyone else? Wouldn't our lives overall just be easier?

TV or no TV

Bess TV Is an Important issue for us, because over three quarters of British teenagers have a TV In their bedroom (pretty antisocial If you ask me! ), and they watch TV for an average of 14 hours a week. In the USA, It's over 20 hours a week. In my research for this debate, Eve discovered some amazing facts. For example, 57% of programmer contain what Is called ‘psychologically harmful' violence. That means, according to the experts, that teenagers learn to behave leniently and they accept violence as normal.In addition, they become more afraid of being attacked. Not surprising, when you learn that the average child in the US has seen up to 8,000 murders on the TV by the age of Ill Furthermore, there's the couch-potato problem. Nobody does enough exercise any more or spends enough time with friends. As a result, television is turning us all into lonely fatties – also because there's an advert for high-sugar snacks and drinks every five minutes. Think English Intermediate ; Unit 10 p. 88O oxford university press PHOTOCOPIES And finally, I believe that talent shows and shows such as Big Brother give people false expectations. They make you think that anyone can become famous – and then rich, for doing practically nothing! We did a survey in my year group and found that 63% of people want to be rich and famous, and In show business. So although I like TV, I think that we should cut down the amount we watch before our brains turn to mush. Damon I don't agree that TV Is a completely negative Influence on people.In my opinion, lovelorn Is a window on the world and therefore, It's Invaluable. I get a lot of information from the TV, and so do my friends and family. My kid brother, wads five, loves wildlife programmer, so TV is often educational. Yesterday, for example, I saw a fantastic documentary about space travel, which I learnt loads from. Without the computer-generated graphics. Remember, you can choose what you watch! What's more, many progra mmer are shown all over the world, so you could say they unite the world community.For instance, my French Nepal, Bastion, really liked The CO when it was on, so we were able to talk about that together. But TV is also fun and entertaining: it helps you relax – what's wrong with that? However, there is one aspect of TV that I don't like – the adverts, especially during a film. They ruin it for me and waste time. To sum up, TV is here and it's part of our lives. Over 96% of us have one. I'm not saying it's good to watch too much, but there's an amazing choice of programmer now with satellite, digital and broadband, so why not enjoy the positive things it offers?

How to Place a Checkbox Into a DBGrid There are numerous ways and reasons to customize the output of a DBGrid in Delphi. One way is to add checkboxes so that the result is more visually attractive. By default, if you have a boolean field in your dataset, the DBGrid displays them as True or False depending on the value of the data field. However, it looks much better if you choose to use a true checkbox control to enable editing the fields. Create a Sample Application Start a new form in Delphi, and place a TDBGrid, TADOTable, and TADOConnection, TDataSource. Leave all the component names as they are when they were first dropped into the form (DBGrid1, ADOQuery1, AdoTable1, etc.). Use the Object Inspector to set a ConnectionString property of the ADOConnection1 component (TADOConnection) to point to the sample QuickiesContest.mdb MS Access database. Connect DBGrid1 to DataSource1, DataSource1 to ADOTable1, and finally ADOTable1 to ADOConnection1. The ADOTable1 TableName property should point to the Articles table (to make the DBGrid display the records of the Articles table). If you have set all the properties correctly, when you run the application (given that the Active property of the ADOTable1 component is True) you should see, by default, the DBGrid display the boolean fields value as True or False depending on the value of the data field. CheckBox in a DBGrid To show a checkbox inside a cell of a DBGrid, well need to make one available for us at run time. Select the Data controls page on the Component Palette and pick a TDBCheckbox. The present study was undertaken to assess an effectiveness of simple intervention in the form of ‘Role Play Simulation’ on the knowledge of undergraduate MBBS medical students of one of randomly selected medical colleges in Maharashtra regarding ‘Epidemics Investigations.’ Methods: A cross-sectional study consisting of pre and post test intervention was conducted at one of the randomly selected medical colleges in Western Maharashtra. A structured pretested self administered questionnaire consisting of 15 close ended questions was distributed to all 144 participants. The present study attempted to incorporate simulation based role play which was based on epidemic/outbreak investigations for food poisoning. Immediately after this intervention, same questionnaire was distributed to participants as a post test and responses were collected. ‘Paired t-test’ was used to assess pre and post intervention knowledge of participants. Results: Present study revealed significant improvement in knowledge of participants about epidemic investigations from pre to post intervention as a result of ‘Role Play Simulation Based Education’ (t = 42.87, p Conclusion: A simple simulation form like role play can make significant change in knowledge of medical students about very important topic i.e. ‘Epidemic Investigation’ in Community Medicine subject. Even though very few studies have been conducted so far in India to evaluate the knowledge of medical students pertaining to investigations of epidemic, some evidences have shown that ‘Simulation Based Education’ can be an effective teaching tool to educate medical students about emergency situation like epidemics. Clinical situations for teaching and learning purposes are created using various forms of simulation like mannequins, part-task trainers, simulated patients or computer-generated simulations. A structured pretested self administered questionnaire consisting of 15 close ended questions was distributed to all participants. They were allowed 15 minutes to complete questionnaire under strict supervision. A questionnaire consisted of questions based on various aspects of epidemic investigations like essential criteria for confirmation of existence of an epidemic, spot map, epidemiological case sheet etc. The present study attempted to incorporate simulation based role play which was based on epidemic/outbreak investigations for food poisoning. Few volunteer medical students were selected and trained to participate in simulation based role play. They were asked to focus on ten important steps in investigation of an epidemic i.e. verification of diagnosis, confirmation of an existence of an epidemic, defining the population at risk, rapid search for all cases and their characteristics, data analysis, formulation of hypothesis, testing of hypothesis, evaluation of ecological factors, further investigation of population at risk and writing the report (Table 1). Remaining students were asked to watch this simulation based role play. Total duration of role play was about 20 minutes. Immediately after this intervention, same questionnaire was distributed to participants as a post test and responses were collected. Data Analysis The scoring system for each complete question was assigned for pre and post intervention. Statistical analysis was done using Microsoft Office Excel Sheet. ‘Paired t-test’ was used to assess pre and post intervention knowledge of participants. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION In present study, of 144 participants 78(54.16%) were males and 66 (45.83%) were females. All (100%) participants were in age bracket of 20-23 years. In contemporary medical education, there is strong emphasis on the use of innovative teaching methods like Problem Based Learning, One Minute Preceptor (OMP), Computer Assisted Learning, Flipped Teaching etc. Uses of these types of methods help students to learn various clinical skills in more effective way. The present study attempted to impart knowledge to undergraduate medical students about investigations of an epidemic by using ‘Role Play Method’ rather than using traditional teaching method. The present study showed that simple simulation form like role play made improvement in the knowledge of participants about ‘Epidemic Investigations.’ Similarly other Studies also reported that the use of simulations as a teaching tool increases student’s comprehension of complex theoretical concepts in relation to modules that are taught solely with the traditional lecture/seminar format. [4] Jennifer M Weller et al. [5] also recommended that ‘Simulation Based Education’ needs to be integrated into medical curricula at the development stage, with careful attention paid to transfer of skills learnt to the real clinical environment. The present study reiterates the need for incorporation of innovative methodologies like simulations along with traditional methods for better learning of students. At some places, methodology like ‘Role Play’ has been regular teaching method in medical colleges.[7]At the University of Heidelberg, Germany, introducing role plays augmented the realism of technical training and improved doctor-patient communication and to teach students to obtain a sexual history and discuss sexual health issues. [8] Role-play is simple form of simulation which can be a valuable teaching tool for medical education, requiring few resources and allowing students to look at the material they are learning in a new light. CONCLUSIONS Present study reported significant improvement in knowledge of undergraduate medical students pertaining to epidemic investigation from pre to post-intervention as a result of role play method. It shows that even a simple simulation form like role play can make significant change in knowledge of medical students about very important topic i.e. ‘Epidemic Investigation’ in Community Medicine subject. The world is getting worse day by day. The most significant reasons contributing this non-grata situation are increased CO2 emission ratio, water and soil pollution and so on. Concerned people are always accusing the administers, governments and big companies of destroying nature. To some extent this argument is true; however, every single individual has to recognize the importance of the environment and bear certain responsibilities. We can be the trigger factor of a remarkable change by making small changes in our daily life. The initial step is reducing our energy consumption. Owing the fact that a considerable amount of the electricity need is met by hydroelectric and thermal power plants, the more we use the electricity, the worse the environment is affected. The thermal power plants is mainly run by fossil fuels which make an irrevocable impact on nature by rising the CO2 emissions to dramatic levels. As a concrete instance, since the Industrial Revolution, carbon dioxide concentration on air has doubled. Hence, by taking small steps like switching off the lights, plugging off the devices instead of keeping them on stand-by; we can decrease the energy consumption. 70% of the human body consists of water. This fact explains how crucial is the water for our existence. Due to the fact that only 2.5% of all water in the world is fresh water, water pollution threatens not only the wild life but also the human nature. In addition, if we add the water scarcity issue, the water will cause the conflicts in the future. Thus, this case must be taken into consideration more seriously by governments, companies and people. For example we can contribute to water conversation by doing small things in our houses such as installing environmental-friendly showerheads, using efficient dishwasher instead of washing the dishes by hand and running it when it’s full. These may seem very tiny but who knows, a snowflake may turn into an avalanche. In my point of view, the most important phase is to create a chance for this snowflake to evolve into an avalanche. But how? I think it can be done by informing people. As an outcome of Industrial Revolution, companies and governments has become more greedy. Earning money and protect their reputation have been their only mission and for the sake of these ends, they are killing the environment. Dramatically, there isn’t adequate protest against these circumstances. Furthermore, the existing protests are suppressed or censored. That’s why I support this argument. If we inform people about the seriousness of this issue and encourage them to take responsibility, the hardest part will be passed. Shortly, two are more powerful than one. If this can be achieved, an enormous step will be taken towards a bright future. When one thinks about how huge is the environment and notices the smallness of himself, he may think that â€Å"What I do is already meaningless.† When everyone do some thing for both themselves and nature, it gains a critical meaning. As Neil Armstrong said: â€Å"This is one small step for me but one giant leap for the humankind†. Whatever we do about saving and protecting the nature as individuals, these all have positive effect on better tomorrows, surely.

Correct Form for the Copyright Symbol The notice for visually perceptible copies should contain all the following three elements: The copyright symbol  © (the letter C in a circle), or the word Copyright, or the abbreviation Copr.The year of first publication of the work. Phonorecords Certain kinds of works, for example, musical, dramatic, and literary works may be fixed not in copies but by means of sound in an audio recording. Since audio recordings such as audio tapes and phonograph disks are phonorecords and not copies, the C in a circle notice is not used to indicate protection of the underlying musical, dramatic, or literary work that is recorded. Copyright Symbol for Phonorecords of Sound Recordings Sound recordings are defined in the law as works that result from the fixation of a series of musical, spoken, or other sounds, but not including the sounds accompanying a motion picture or other audiovisual work. Common examples include recordings of music, drama, or lectures. A sound recording is not the same as a phonorecord. A phonorecord is a physical object in which works of authorship are embodied. The word phonorecord includes cassette tapes, CDs, records, as well as other formats. The notice for phonorecords embodying a sound recording should contain all the following three elements: The copyright symbol (the letter P in a circle)The year of first publication of the sound recordingThe name of the owner of copyright in the sound recording, or an abbreviation by which the name can be recognized, or a generally known alternative designation of the owner. If the producer of the sound recording is named on the phonorecord label or container and if no other name appears in conjunction with the notice, the producers name shall be considered a part of the notice. Position of Notice The copyright notice should be affixed to copies or phonorecords in such a way as to give reasonable notice of the claim of copyright. The three elements of the notice should ordinarily appear together on the copies or phonorecords or on the phonorecord label or container. Since questions may arise from the use of variant forms of the notice, you may wish to seek legal advice before using any other form of the notice. The 1976 Copyright Act overturned the strict consequences of failure to include copyright notice under prior law. It contained provisions that set out specific corrective steps to cure omissions or certain errors in the copyright notice. Under these provisions, an applicant had 5 years after publication to cure omission of notice or certain errors. Although these provisions are technically still in the law, their impact has been limited by the amendment making notice optional for all works published on and after March 1, 1989. Publications Incorporating United States Government Works Works by the U. S. Government are not eligible for U.S. copyright protection. For works published on and after March 1, 1989, the previous notice requirement for works consisting primarily of one or more U. S. Government works has been eliminated. However, use of a notice on such a work will defeat a claim of innocent infringement as previously described provided the copyright notice also includes a statement that identifies either those portions of the work in which copyright is claimed or those portions that constitute U.
